Contemplative Corner – “God’s Mercies Are New Every Morning.”

I have these words posted on my mirror so I can see them each morning. I encourage you to write them down and place them where you can see them daily to remind you not to allow yourself to think of yourself, others, or daily circumstances and struggles, as being void of God’s purpose, meaning and mercy.

Mercy is the theme of God’s story, the thread that runs through scripture, and the reason for Jesus’ coming. God’s mercy is what our desperate hearts need as we struggle in times of trials in which we feel powerless. Mercy gives us hope that someday the struggle will end and that justice will triumph. It is mercy that we long for, and after honestly facing our powerlessness, it is God’s mercy we run to for encouragement, forgiveness and safety.

As children of God, Lamentations 3:21-28 enables us to acknowledge how messed up we really are, allows us to extend mercy to others and gives us reason to get up every morning.

22“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, God’s mercies never come to an end; 23they are new every morning; great is God’s faithfulness…24therefore I will hope in God.”

Lamentations 3:22-24

So we awake to God’s comforting presence with love poured out upon us and mercy form fitted for the needs of our day. God knows who we are, where we are and what we are facing and in God’s divine knowledge, power and compassion meets us with just the right mercy for each moment. Mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance” (Jude 1:2).
