I am perpetually in awe of the beauty that surrounds us in El Salvador. From the rolling mountains, to the vivid murals and housing, it’s easy to be overwhelmed with emotion basking in God’s creation.

The greatest beauty by far are the families and leaders of Cerna and Centro who have been so compassionate in their willingness to share their lives and homes with us. I’ve never experienced so much kindness from strangers who are now blooming acquaintances.

When sharing a mid-day meal together before a constructive community dialogue in Centro, a woman shared with Kathy that this moment of fellowship was to be acknowledged and celebrated. I am certain in my belief that food is one of many universal, non-traditional languages. My heart is full knowing that breaking bread (literally and figuratively) holds great significance to others as well.

“If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.” – Fred Rodgers.
